Deactivate xDrive / all-wheel drive: On technically supported F models, we offer software-based deactivation of all-wheel-drive control or a switch to rear-wheel drive for the non-public track and dynamometer use described below.

On selected BMW F Series vehicles, xDrive control can be changed by software to rear-wheel drive for temporary, non-public track or dynamometer use. Bimmerfit assesses the vehicle, transfer case, DSC configuration and software level before confirming a remote appointment.

This service is not intended for use on public roads. The change affects vehicle behaviour, stability control and torque distribution. It is not a substitute for motorsport preparation and is not offered for every xDrive vehicle.

Intended use

  • closed race track or driving event with suitable permission
  • power or rolling-road dynamometer where the operator requires and approves the configuration
  • technical diagnosis of a compatible xDrive vehicle under controlled conditions

Drifting, high-speed driving or testing on public roads is not included and is not recommended. The driver or operator is responsible for a safe location, vehicle condition and local rules.

What is technically assessed?

  • VIN, model series, engine and transmission version
  • xDrive/transfer-case control and current software level
  • DSC, engine and transmission fault memory
  • existing suspension, tyre or power modifications
  • whether a documented return to the original configuration is possible

“F Series with xDrive” is not sufficient compatibility information. SUVs, special models, different software or existing drivetrain faults can exclude the adaptation.

Included in the price

  • pre-assessment of vehicle and control-unit data
  • reading relevant drivetrain and vehicle-dynamics systems
  • backup or documentation of the original configuration
  • agreed remote adaptation where technical suitability is confirmed
  • static check of fault memory and control-unit communication
  • restoration of the documented original configuration within the agreed appointment scope where technically possible

Requirements

  • technically sound vehicle without unresolved xDrive, DSC, transmission or tyre-system faults
  • identical or technically permissible front and rear rolling circumferences in accordance with the vehicle requirements
  • Windows laptop, stable internet connection and reliable ENET cable
  • stable vehicle voltage during diagnosis and coding
  • safe stationary work area; the vehicle is not moved during remote work
  • confirmation that use is limited to permitted non-public operation

Process

  1. You send the VIN, model, engine, software history and intended use.
  2. We assess whether the vehicle is technically supported and whether diagnosis is required first.
  3. At the confirmed appointment, connection, voltage and fault memory are checked.
  4. The adaptation is carried out only where the initial condition is free of relevant faults.
  5. A functional test is then performed by qualified persons under controlled conditions.
  6. Before returning to public roads, the standard configuration must be restored and the vehicle checked.

Important limits and risks

  • front-axle components are not mechanically removed by a software change
  • vehicle behaviour and stability-control intervention can change significantly
  • improper use can cause loss of control and increased wear or damage
  • no use with active drivetrain, DSC, tyre-system or transfer-case faults
  • no registration, insurance or motorsport approval is provided by Bimmerfit

Frequently asked questions

Can every BMW xDrive model be changed to RWD?

No. This service applies only to selected F Series vehicles after assessment of the control units and software level.

Can I drive it on public roads?

No. The service is intended exclusively for permitted track, dynamometer or diagnostic use outside public-road traffic.

Is restoration always guaranteed?

No. We document the original condition and assess the return route beforehand. Software updates, faults or later changes can affect restoration.

If drivetrain or DSC faults are present, begin with the BMW remote ISTA diagnosis.
