Have you retrofitted a 6WA or 6WB instrument cluster to your BMW? To ensure the displays, vehicle order and communication match the vehicle, a compatible cluster must be checked and coded after professional installation. Bimmerfit performs the supported software adaptation remotely.
Before the appointment, we check the VIN, part number, origin and condition of the instrument cluster. Used clusters may require additional preparation that cannot be replaced by normal vehicle coding.
Before purchasing the component: The BMW 6WA and 6WB retrofit guide explains the differences, compatibility checks, new and used components and the remote-coding process.
6WA and 6WB explained briefly
Depending on the model series, 6WA identifies an extended instrument cluster with a larger display area. 6WB is the fully digital multifunction display. Which version is technically suitable depends on the model series, production period, equipment, head unit and software level.
A connector that appears to fit or a cluster from a similar model does not confirm compatibility. Whenever possible, have the part number checked before purchasing a used component.
Included in the price
- check of the vehicle, instrument cluster, part number and software level
- review of the intended vehicle order
- coding the compatible instrument cluster and involved control units
- check of communication, displays and existing warnings
- joint function test after remote coding
Requirements
- The cluster is installed professionally, electrically accessible and suitable for the vehicle.
- You send the VIN and clear photos of the part and serial numbers before the appointment is confirmed.
- A Windows laptop, stable internet connection and confirmed diagnostic cable are available for remote work.
- The vehicle voltage remains stable during coding or programming.
ENET is used on many F and G models. The diagnostic cable guide explains exceptions and older vehicles.
New or used component?
A new compatible cluster has different requirements than a component that was already used in another vehicle. Used instrument clusters may contain vehicle-specific data and a different mileage. Whether lawful integration is possible and which preparation is required must be checked in advance.
This service does not include mileage manipulation or an unlawful mileage change. Vehicle and mileage data are not changed for the purpose of concealing actual use. If the condition of a used component does not allow safe and lawful integration, we do not perform the job.
Process
- You send the VIN, model, year and part number of the 6WA or 6WB cluster.
- We check compatibility, installation status and the required scope of work.
- After our technical confirmation, you can order the service. Select a preferred appointment optionally at purchase or arrange it with us afterwards.
- At the appointment, we connect to your prepared Windows laptop.
- We back up relevant data, code the supported control units and check the result.
Not included
- purchase, shipping or mechanical installation of the instrument cluster
- repair of display, lighting or hardware faults
- unlawful mileage changes
- retrofitting missing wiring, head units or additional hardware
Additional information on used modules is available under BMW control-unit integration and, for common F models, under BMW F Series coding.
Frequently asked questions
Can any 6WB be installed in any BMW F model?
No. Part number, model series, head unit, software and equipment must match. We need the vehicle and component details before confirming the service.
Can a used instrument cluster be integrated by coding alone?
Not always. Vehicle-specific data may require additional preparation of the component. The exact process is defined after the check.
What happens if warnings appear after installation?
We first check communication and fault codes. Mechanical, electrical or hardware-related faults cannot be repaired through coding.
