Does your BMW M3, M4, M5 or M8 report a lithium 12 V battery fault, fail to start or no longer detect the battery? With this service, we assess the suitable original lithium 12 V battery and determine whether controlled reactivation or repair is possible and responsible.
Not every locked battery is permanently defective, but not every battery may safely remain in use after a reset. Protective shutdown, deep discharge, cell deviation, overvoltage or a fault in the internal electronics can look similar. The part number, measurements and actual condition are therefore decisive, not only the vehicle warning.
Two service types
Send in battery
This option includes physical assessment of the submitted battery. We inspect its visible condition, relevant electrical values and battery electronics, and perform reactivation or controlled charging only where the results permit it. A functional check follows.
Reset file
The file option is intended for workshops and experienced users with suitable equipment for correctly reading and writing compatible battery electronics. You submit the extracted data; we assess and edit it within the agreed scope. Because the battery is not physically present, cell condition, housing and hardware are not included. Correct writing, electrical testing and approval for further use remain the responsibility of the workshop carrying out the work.
Which vehicles is the service intended for?
- BMW M3 G80 and G81
- BMW M4 G82 and G83
- BMW M5 F90
- BMW M8 F91, F92 and F93
This list is a guide. Different batteries can be installed within the same model series. Compare the part number, label and construction before ordering. If you are unsure, we assess your photos and advise which service type may be suitable.
Common indications
- vehicle does not start or starts only intermittently
- 12 V battery is not detected correctly or cannot be charged normally
- power-supply warnings or numerous consequential faults
- fault after long storage, deep discharge, jump-starting or overvoltage
High parasitic draw, charging electronics, wiring or other control units can also cause such faults. A BMW remote ISTA diagnosis can often narrow down the vehicle-side condition before removal.
Preparing the mail-in service
- Order “Send in battery” and note the order number.
- Before shipping, send clearly readable photos of the label, part number, Wh rating, terminals, warning symbols and every side of the housing. Also describe the warning, event and known previous damage.
- Wait for our shipping confirmation. The mail-in address is our legal-notice address: Altin & Yaman GbR, Koblenzer Str. 29, 57482 Wenden, Germany. Individual shipping instructions are provided with the order confirmation or in a separate email.
- Have the battery removed professionally in accordance with manufacturer instructions and confirm acceptance in advance with a suitable carrier.
- After arrival, we determine which processing is technically possible. If the condition does not support safe work, we agree the next step with you.
Shipping notice for lithium 12 V batteries
Lithium batteries can be dangerous goods and are subject to special rules depending on energy content, condition, route and carrier. An order is therefore not blanket shipping approval. The sender is responsible for correct classification, approved packaging, short-circuit protection, labelling, documentation and acceptance by the selected carrier.
A swollen, leaking, deformed, burnt, unusually warm, accident-damaged or otherwise visibly damaged battery must not be sent as an ordinary parcel. Do not open the housing, bridge the terminals or attempt charging or unlocking yourself. International shipping always requires prior individual coordination and a suitable dangerous-goods transport provider. Return shipping also depends on the battery condition and permitted transport route.
Further details about pre-assessment, packaging, costs and return shipping are available under shipping and returns for hardware repairs.
Reactivation only after a positive assessment
If the protective shutdown, cells and electronics support safe continued use, reactivating the original battery can be economically sensible. Permanent cell damage, unsafe measurements or mechanical damage are not made safe merely by resetting the battery. In that case, we recommend professional replacement. Successful repair or a particular remaining service life cannot be guaranteed before assessment.
Frequently asked questions
Which model series is the BMW M8?
M8 models are designated F91, F92 and F93. G14, G15 and G16 identify the regular 8 Series and are therefore not reliable proof of compatibility for this M8 service.
Can I ship the battery immediately after ordering?
No. Send photos and a fault description first and wait for our case-specific response and the confirmed mail-in address.
Which service type is suitable for consumers?
Without professional reading and writing equipment, choose “Send in battery”. The file option does not replace a physical safety and condition assessment.
Is registration or diagnosis required afterwards?
This depends on the vehicle, battery condition and previous work. We do not provide blanket approval without knowledge of the specific vehicle.
All other mail-in services are listed under BMW repair services. For a pre-assessment, send vehicle information, the part number and photos through the contact methods offered in the shop.
Unsure whether the issue is a protective shutdown, a vehicle fault or a battery condition that no longer supports safe use? Our BMW lithium 12 V battery guide explains symptoms, diagnostic limits, repair decisions and safe shipping.
