Deactivate RDC / TPMS: For suitable vehicles, following a technical assessment, we offer deactivation for a permitted track / motorsport configuration outside public-road traffic. Required monitoring and warning functions on road vehicles are not disabled to conceal existing faults.
Does your BMW display a tyre-pressure warning, fail to detect new sensors, or report an RDC/RDKS fault after a wheel, tyre or control-unit replacement? Bimmerfit checks the sensors, vehicle equipment and fault memory and adjusts the configuration where this is technically suitable and lawful for the vehicle.
If a tyre-pressure monitoring system is legally required for a vehicle used on public roads, it must remain operational. A warning must not simply be hidden when a sensor, tyre or system is genuinely faulty.
Common causes of an RDC/RDKS or TPMS warning
- missing, depleted or incompatible wheel sensors
- an incorrect sensor frequency on an imported vehicle or a different wheel set
- sensors that have not been initialized correctly after a wheel change
- a fault in the RDC control unit, antenna, wiring or power supply
- the vehicle order no longer matches the hardware after a retrofit or control-unit replacement
- confusion between a direct sensor system and indirect tyre-pressure monitoring
Coding cannot repair a depleted sensor battery, a damaged tyre or a defective control unit. We therefore establish first whether a hardware fault is present.
Assess the fault before ordering: The BMW RDC/RDKS fault guide explains tyre-pressure checks, initialization, sensor batteries, compatibility and the difference between sensor learning, diagnosis and coding.
Possible services
- vehicle identification and reading the accessible RDC and chassis systems
- assessment of fault codes and the current vehicle configuration
- check of model series, market version, wheel set and installed sensors
- coding after a properly completed control-unit or system replacement
- support with initialization and the subsequent function test
- for a motorsport vehicle not registered for road use: assessment of a suitable track configuration
When may a system change be considered?
The vehicle configuration may only be changed when the technical hardware supports it and the intended use is permitted. A vehicle used exclusively on a closed track may be subject to different requirements than a road vehicle. For vehicles used on public roads, we generally recommend repairing or restoring the intended monitoring system.
The customer must observe local regulations, vehicle approval and insurance requirements. Bimmerfit does not confirm road legality and will not disable a required warning merely to conceal an ongoing tyre-pressure or system fault.
What we need
- VIN, model, year and registration market
- the exact wording or a photo of the warning
- fault codes, if already available
- information about the wheels, tyres and installed sensors
- for remote work: a Windows laptop, stable internet connection and the confirmed diagnostic cable
- correct tyre pressure and a checked condition of all tyres before the appointment
Process
- You send the vehicle, wheel and fault information.
- We determine whether diagnosis, sensor replacement, initialization or coding is the correct route.
- A remote appointment is confirmed only for a suitable software task.
- At the appointment, we read the system and carry out the agreed adjustment.
- After the work, the tyre-pressure monitoring system or the permitted track configuration must be functionally checked.
Not included
- tyre fitting, pressure checks or repair of damaged tyres
- supply and programming of new wheel sensors unless agreed separately
- repair of defective antennas, wiring or control units
- approval by a registration authority, inspection body or insurer
Frequently asked questions
Can a depleted sensor battery be fixed by coding?
No. The battery is normally an integral part of the sensor. A defective or depleted sensor must be replaced and initialized appropriately.
Are US sensors compatible with European vehicles?
Not automatically. Frequency, sensor protocol and vehicle equipment must match.
Can RDC simply be switched off on a road vehicle?
If the system is required, it must remain operational. A configuration change is not used to hide an active fault or a mandatory warning.
For an initial fault assessment, a remote ISTA diagnosis may be useful.
