This ENET cable connects many BMW F and G Series vehicles and suitable MINI F Series vehicles to a laptop through the OBD port. It is the appropriate physical connection between vehicle and Windows PC for many Bimmerfit remote services. On request, we check free of charge before purchase whether your vehicle and intended work actually use ENET.

What is an ENET cable?

ENET carries vehicle communication over Ethernet. One end connects to the vehicle's OBD-II port and the other to an RJ45 network port on the laptop. The cable provides only the communication path: it does not activate functions by itself and contains no diagnostic or programming software, licences or vehicle data.

For a remote appointment, Bimmerfit connects to your prepared Windows laptop and uses the environment suitable for the confirmed order. The ENET cable does not need to remain permanently connected after the appointment.

Which vehicles may use ENET?

  • many BMW F Series vehicles with a suitable Ethernet diagnostic interface
  • many BMW G Series vehicles, depending on the control unit and required access
  • selected MINI F Series vehicles with a suitable vehicle architecture
  • individual additional model series after specific assessment

Model series and year alone are not a complete compatibility confirmation. Depending on the vehicle, control unit and task, additional authorization, diagnostic access or another interface may be required. An ENET cable does not bypass protected access and does not unlock control units.

For classic BMW E Series vehicles, many diagnostic and coding tasks require K+DCAN instead. The differences are explained in our ENET or K+DCAN guide.

Typical Bimmerfit uses

  • remote coding on supported F and G Series vehicles
  • assessment and activation of Apple CarPlay on NBT EVO
  • NBT EVO software and ID4/ID6 work after head-unit assessment
  • remote diagnosis and configuration after retrofits
  • vehicle-specific programming where ENET has been confirmed for the order

Not every service listed is suitable for every vehicle. The cable replaces neither technical pre-assessment nor the separately ordered coding, diagnostic or flashing service.

What else is required?

  • Windows laptop with power supply
  • RJ45 network port or suitable USB-to-Ethernet adapter
  • stable internet connection for remote access
  • sufficient time and an undisturbed work area at the vehicle
  • suitable external voltage support for programming or flashing work

If the laptop has no RJ45 port, a compatible USB-to-Ethernet adapter can be used. The adapter and any required drivers should be configured before the appointment. Wi-Fi on the laptop does not replace the wired ENET connection to the vehicle.

Package contents and limits

The package contains one OBD-II-to-RJ45 ENET connection cable. A laptop, USB-to-Ethernet adapter, battery charger or voltage support, software, licences and remote service are not included. Choose the relevant service separately or after our recommendation.

This is not a universal OBD fault-code reader and not a K+DCAN USB cable. The information under shipping and returns applies to shipping time, delivery and returns.

Preparing for a remote appointment

  1. Send the model, year, last seven VIN characters and intended service via WhatsApp.
  2. We confirm whether ENET is the correct interface.
  3. After delivery, connect the cable to the vehicle and laptop only as instructed.
  4. At the confirmed appointment, the laptop, power supply, internet connection and any required vehicle voltage support are ready.
  5. After the connection check, the agreed diagnostic, coding or flashing work begins.

Frequently asked questions

Does the cable fit every BMW F or G Series vehicle?

No. ENET is the correct connection for many vehicles, but the task, control unit and access differ. We assess suitability from the vehicle and order.

Can I use the ENET cable on a BMW E Series vehicle?

Typical E Series work normally requires K+DCAN. Individual exceptions are assessed separately; there is no blanket E Series compatibility.

Does it work with a laptop without a network port?

Yes, if a compatible USB-to-Ethernet adapter and its driver work reliably. The adapter is not included.

Is software stored on the cable?

No. The cable is a purely physical interface. Required software and access depend on the order and are not included with the cable.

Is the cable alone sufficient for flashing a control unit?

No. The vehicle and control unit must also be compatible, and stable voltage, a laptop, internet connection and the correct software access are essential.

Unsure which cable you need? Send the last seven VIN characters and intended service via WhatsApp. Model-series information is also available for the BMW F Series, BMW G Series and MINI F Series.

Important for INPA and older E Series vehicles: The INPA and EDIABAS setup service includes neither an interface nor installation files. Typical E Series work normally requires K+DCAN instead of this ENET cable; the correct connection is confirmed from the vehicle and task before ordering.
