BMW NBT EVO Software Update – iDrive 5/6 & Full-Screen Preparation

An outdated software level on a BMW NBT EVO head unit can limit specific functions, system stability or full-screen Apple CarPlay. For this remote service, Bimmerfit checks the head unit, hardware level and current software first. If the system is technically suitable, we perform a targeted NBT EVO software update.

This is a programming or flashing procedure and is more extensive than normal comfort coding. It only starts after the vehicle connection, internet connection and power supply have been prepared reliably.

When can an update be useful?

• the installed software does not yet support the desired full-screen display,
• a compatible NBT EVO function requires a newer software base,
• the current version should be moved to a suitable target version after a technical check,
• a previous retrofit or component replacement requires coordinated programming.

An update is not a universal repair for crashes, audio failures or a head unit that cannot be reached. These symptoms can also be caused by hardware, wiring, voltage problems or other control units and should be diagnosed first.

Technical requirements

• a compatible NBT EVO system that can be reached without communication faults
• a Windows laptop with power supply, administrator rights and sufficient free storage
• a reliable ENET cable and, where required, a high-quality Ethernet adapter
• a very stable internet connection during download and programming
• suitable voltage support that keeps the vehicle voltage stable throughout the flashing procedure

A small battery maintainer is not automatically sufficient for a longer programming session. Before confirming the appointment, we explain what preparation is required for the specific vehicle.

How the NBT EVO update works

1. You send the VIN and photos of the main menu, map information and software information.
2. We verify that the vehicle actually has NBT EVO and that the job is suitable for remote work.
3. After a successful check, we confirm the appointment, cable and required voltage support.
4. At the appointment, the connection is tested before any programming starts.
5. The cable, laptop and power supply remain connected without interruption during the update.
6. After the restart, we check the coding and the agreed functions.

Depending on the download, vehicle and current software level, allow approximately 90 to 180 minutes. This is an estimate, not a guaranteed duration.

Not automatically included

• first-time Apple CarPlay activation or FSC activation
• NBT EVO ID4 to ID6 flash
• CarPlay full screen, unless expressly agreed
• navigation maps, ConnectedDrive contracts or missing vehicle hardware
• repair of a damaged or non-communicating head unit

Identify the system correctly first
