BMW Navigation Map Update – CIC, NBT & NBT EVO

Does your BMW navigation show outdated roads, the wrong region or an older map version? Bimmerfit first identifies the navigation system actually installed and then supports the suitable update route for CIC, NBT or NBT EVO. Selected MINI vehicles with a technically related head unit may also be supported after a check.

BMW uses different map families, storage media and activation procedures depending on the head unit. Screen size, model and year alone are not always enough to select the correct option. Before ordering or confirming an appointment, send the last seven characters of the VIN and a clear photo showing the complete navigation version.

Which option fits my vehicle?

• CIC: often associated with a map family such as PREMIUM; the exact version is checked on the vehicle.
• NBT: typically uses the NEXT map family.
• NBT EVO: typically uses the EVO map family; ID4, ID5 or ID6 is assessed separately.
• Other designations: ROUTE, MOVE or MOTION may belong to other navigation systems and are not automatically covered by this offer.

Check BMW ConnectedDrive first

Depending on the vehicle and subscribed services, an official automatic or USB-based map update may already be available. BMW describes different over-the-air, USB and online procedures for newer operating systems. Before booking an additional service, check the BMW ConnectedDrive map-update offer to see whether a suitable service is active or available for your VIN.

This Bimmerfit service is intended particularly for vehicles and systems where the map version, head unit, storage medium or required activation must be assessed before an update. We do not circumvent protected BMW access or authorization. Instead, we determine the technically and legally suitable update route for the vehicle.

What you need

• VIN, model, year and, where possible, production month
• a photo of the complete map or navigation version screen
• the desired target region and information if the vehicle was imported
• a Windows laptop with power supply, sufficient free storage and a stable internet connection
• a suitable USB storage device; size and format are confirmed only after the system check
• reliable vehicle voltage during a longer installation

Some systems may also require a diagnostic cable. We confirm beforehand whether ENET, K+DCAN or another connection is needed. A map update, head-unit flash and Apple CarPlay activation are separate services.

How the map update works

1. You send the VIN, vehicle details and a photo of the complete version screen.
2. We identify the head unit, map family, current region and possible update route.
3. After a successful check, we specify the storage medium, connection, requirements and estimated time.
4. You order the confirmed CIC, NBT or NBT EVO option.
5. Download and preparation take place with remote support within the agreed scope.
6. The installation is started according to the system instructions and checked afterwards.

Download and installation times vary considerably with map size, internet speed, USB storage device and head unit. The vehicle must not lose sufficient voltage during an active installation.

Imported vehicle or used head unit?

On vehicles from the USA, Canada, Japan or South Korea, the map region, language, storage configuration, radio hardware and ConnectedDrive services may depend on one another. Installing a European map therefore does not automatically constitute a complete conversion to European specification. For additional country-specific settings, use the appropriate US import service or the Japan and South Korea assessment.

If a used CIC, NBT or NBT EVO has been installed, vehicle assignment, software level and existing authorizations may differ. In that case, the service for used head units should be assessed first.

Not included

• installation of missing navigation hardware, USB ports or GPS antennas
• repair of a head unit that does not start or is damaged
• ConnectedDrive subscriptions, real-time traffic services or mobile-data contracts
• changing to a map family that is not technically supported
• Apple CarPlay activation, an ID4-to-ID6 flash or another NBT EVO software update unless separately checked, confirmed and ordered

Frequently asked questions

Can I select the option using only the model year?

No. Production transitions, equipment and previously replaced head units make the VIN and a photo of the version screen more reliable.

Does Road Map EUROPE EVO automatically mean NBT EVO ID6?

No. EVO identifies the map family. ID4, ID5 or ID6 and the software level must be checked separately.

Do I always need an FSC activation code?

No. This depends on the system, existing authorization and target map version. If activation is required, it must match the vehicle and map family.

Will a map update fix a black screen?

No. A black screen, restarts or a head unit that cannot be reached point to a different software, voltage, communication or hardware problem. A remote diagnosis should be carried out first.

Can I prepare the USB drive myself?

Yes, provided the storage device, size and format match the confirmed system. We support the preparation within the agreed scope.

Will real-time traffic information work automatically after the update?

No. Map data and services such as Real Time Traffic Information or ConnectedDrive subscriptions are separate functions.
