BMW DME / DDE Cloning – Data Transfer to a Replacement ECU

Does a faulty engine control unit need to be replaced with a compatible used unit? On supported DME/DDE variants, we transfer the required readable vehicle data to a suitable replacement ECU. This prepares the unit for the agreed integration into your vehicle.

€149 for the confirmed data-transfer or cloning scope on a suitable DME/DDE. We first check the VIN, part and hardware identifiers, and software versions of the original and replacement ECUs.

What we check first

• The VIN and complete part and hardware identifiers for both units.
• The condition of the original ECU and whether its data can be read.
• The compatibility, working condition and traceable origin of the replacement unit.

Matching connectors or a similar-looking housing are not enough. Whenever possible, have the replacement unit assessed before buying it.

How the data transfer works

After technical confirmation, send in the original and the agreed replacement unit, each clearly labelled. We back up the required data that can be accessed, carry out the agreed transfer and check communication within the defined scope. Whether additional programming, coding or initialisation is needed on the vehicle after installation is clarified for your specific case.

What is not included

A replacement ECU, removal and installation, mechanical repairs and a tuning unlock are not included. Unreadable or damaged original data may require another solution. We do not make a blanket plug-and-play promise for every ECU generation.

We work on lawfully held vehicle parts for traceable, authorised repair jobs. This service does not include disabling or bypassing the immobiliser. Proof of authorisation may be required; personal details that are not needed may be redacted.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need both engine control units?

For the standard data-transfer service, we need the original and the replacement unit confirmed in advance. If the original is missing or cannot be read, the case must be assessed separately.

Does this also cover EGS, EPS or head-unit integration?

No. This service covers engine control units. Separate services are available for the transmission, steering and head unit.

Is tuning write protection automatically removed?

No. Vehicle-specific data transfer as part of a repair and a DME unlock are different services.
